this is probably the best take I’ve heard so far on the debate of people being told that they aren’t having enough ‘compassion’ for billionaires making bad decisions and paying the obvious consequences for it

I understand the guy who posted this is implying this is somehow horrifying, and I understand how HOAs enforce uniformity and green boring lawns everywhere in the US, but ... for real, for the love of god, for everything sacred in the multiverse... what's what our guy Nick here can be seeing in this picture as ... something horrible to complain about?
This looks like a pretty nice house, with a nice yard and some cool trees. Far from being sketchy, or derelic, or even unkempt. The... the trash bins?
He's complaining yes because of the trash cans and also because the yard isn't mowed probably to some regulated height. My mother once got a letter from her previous HOA to "define her garden." She got a sign that said "garden" and stuck it out front.
Ok, your mother is incredibly cool
I just saw someone say the words "jokingly gaslight" this might be a good time to reintroduce the internet to the terms "lying" or perhaps "pranking" or even just "joking" on it's own
Okay, say it with me guys…
If you are giving someone wrong information in the hopes that they'll believe that it's true, then that's lying.
If you are giving someone wrong information under the assumption that they'll ultimately realise that it's false, and that they will find this funny, then that's joking.
If you are giving someone wrong information in the hopes that they'll believe that it's true and that their response will be funny, then that's a prank.
If you are giving someone wrong information in the hopes that they will notice the differences between your presentation of reality and their perception of it, and come to doubt their ability to judge what is and is not real, then that's gaslighting.
If you are giving someone wrong information and you assume they will know it is wrong, in hopes that they will play along, then that’s a bit.
The best of The Mayhem Guy from the Allstate commercials
okay, but where is, “I’M THE SMARTEST RACCOON I KNOW”
better
Okay good i didn’t want to reblog this without the racoon one
the raccoon one tho
Favorite commercial thing.
These were what I lived to see as a kid. I loved these commercials
HES STILL AROUND, like two days ago I saw a new one where he was a glitch in a smart house’s system keeping the garage door from opening and he was LITERALLY GLITCHING, it was so clever XD
Okay but you forgot the best part! During the scene where Aragorn, Gandalf and the other Main CharaktersTM ride ahead to go shout at the gate (and talk to the mouth of sauron in the extended edition) they were very firmly told only to ride up ahead “this far” because that area was cleared and beyond that it wasn’t.
But. Viggo Mortensen is absolutely mad and lead them just…. a bit farther than that. Everyone else was very scared they might blow up any second. Viggo said it “added a little extra tension”.
sometimes, it dawns on me just how incredibly happy i am that fanfic exists as a medium. like, the amount of experiences had, the excitement and thrills and tears and joy—and more—that writers of fic can give to so, so many people... it's immeasurable; it's wonderful.
and just. what an amazing thought, you know? in a world where we're all struggling to get by, recognising this beautiful thing we have created, knowing that we're all sharing in taking some sort of pleasure/lesson/comfort etc from reading and/or writing it?
that's really special.
